NAVI MUMBAI, July 8 -- Two women in the final month of pregnancy were rescued from flood-hit villages in Raigad's Pen taluka on Tuesday after incessant rain submerged roads and left them stranded. The first operation was launched after Payal Rajesh Patil, 23, a resident of Rave village who was due to deliver, required urgent hospitalisation. District collector Kishan Jawale directed officials to immediately deploy a rescue team. However, Rave village had been completely cut off by floodwaters, making access by road impossible. Trained Aapda Mitra volunteers Abhiket Mhatre and Rajesh Mhatre navigated the inflatable boat through the strong current and rescued Payal Patil and was taken to hospital for treatment. Even before the first operation ended, the district administration received another distress call from Tambadshet village, where another woman in her ninth month of pregnancy was stranded. The same rescue team launched a second operation, reached the village and safely evacuated the woman....
