NAVI MUMBAI, Aug. 25 -- A new LPG cylinder brought home on Sunday afternoon ended up triggering a fire at an Airoli house, leaving a 30-year-old man with 80% burns and his 50-year-old mother with 50% burns. Both are in critical condition, while a neighbour was also injured in the blaze. The fire broke out between 12.20pm and 12.45pm at Room 202 of Jagdish Patil Niwas in Airoli village, police said. The injured were identified as Rohan Devidas Sonawane, 30, his mother Sunita Sonawane, 50, and their neighbour Sarika Nilesh Kobale. Police said the family had replaced an empty LPG cylinder with a new one. While fitting the regulator, it reportedly did not sit properly. When they tried to remove and refit it, the regulator came off, causing gas to leak into the house. Soon after, the accumulated gas is believed to have caught fire, causing a sudden flare-up inside the house. Rohan suffered burns over about 80% of his body as well as lung and inhalation injuries. He was put on ventilator support and remains critical. Sunita suffered around 50% burns and is also in critical condition. Their neighbour Kobale suffered burns and was taken to hospital.
