Youth killed in big cat attack in Lakhimpur Kheri
Lakhimpur Kheri, March 17 -- A 23-year-old man was killed after a tiger attacked him in a forest area of Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday evening. The victim, Manoj Kumar, a resident of Nandlalpurwa village under Hyderabad Police Station limits, was attacked in the Aonla beat of the Maheshpur range under the South Kheri forest division.
According to reports, Manoj had gone to harvest his mustard crop when the big cat attacked him from behind. V
illagers working in nearby fields raised an alarm and managed to drive the animal away. Manoj was taken to the community health centre in Gola Gokarannath but died before he could receive treatment.
Divisional forest officer (South Kheri) Tapas Mihir said villagers claimed the animal was a tiger, but officials were collecting pugmarks to confirm the species.
Forest teams have started patrolling the area and installed cameras to track the animal's movement.
In another incident on Monday evening, a leopard entered the house of Hemraj Verma in Banbirpur village under the Dudhwa National Park buffer zone and injured his aunt Rampyari while she was having tea. Villagers rescued Rampyari and took her to hospital.
They locked the house from outside, leaving the leopard trapped inside.
Forest officials later reached the spot and started rescue operations. Kirti Chaudhary said forest teams were working to safely capture the leopard. Officials added that Rampyari is under treatment and is out of danger....
