LUCKNOW, March 26 -- A long-defunct indoor activity centre as part of the Kanpur Road scheme, was inaugurated on Wednesday, reviving a key community facility that had remained shut for years despite being fully developed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). The Authority operationalised the centre in Sector D1 of the LDA Colony by handing over its management to a private agency to ensure upkeep and regular usage. Officials said the move is part of a broader plan to bring idle infrastructure in LDA colonies back into use. Spread across nearly 50,000 square feet, the indoor activity centre offers a range of sports and fitness facilities, including skating, table tennis, badminton, billiards, squash, gym, yoga, dance and taekwondo. Residents, particularly children and youth, have already started accessing the amenities. Sarojini Nagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh inaugurated the facility in the presence of LDA officials on Wednesday. During the event, he stressed on the importance of strengthening local sports infrastructure and indicated plans to expand facilities further. Vibhanshu Vikram Singh, who currently manages the centre, said the facility opened with proper safety arrangements. "We have ensured supervision and safety measures so that users, especially children, can utilise the facilities without concerns," he said.
