Worker killed as under-construction staircase lintel collapses at Kaushambi school
PRAYAGRAJ, July 22 -- A 30-year-old construction worker was killed after the lintel of an under-construction staircase collapsed at a private school in Bajha Khurrampur village in the Karari area of Kaushambi district on Tuesday morning. The incident brought alleged lapses in construction safety standards under scrutiny.
The deceased was identified as Premchandra, son of Chedilal and a resident of Lodhan Ka Purwa in the Pashchim Sharira police station area. He had gone to work at Devmaya Dwarika Prasad Brahmachari Sanskrit Vidyalaya, where he was removing the shuttering of a staircase lintel.
According to police, the accident occurred when a supporting prop (balli) suddenly gave way, causing the lintel to collapse. Premchandra was trapped beneath the debris. Fellow workers rushed to the spot and pulled him out, but he had succumbed to his injuries.Police sent the body for a postmortem examination.Karari SHO Sanjay Singh said that legal action would be initiated if the victim's family submits a complaint alleging negligence or fixing responsibility. Preliminary police investigation has indicated that safety norms were allegedly ignored during the construction work, and further inquiry is underway, he added....
