Won't be silenced; SP chief hassought copy of FIR: Iqra Hasan
MEERUT, May 25 -- Kairana MP Iqra Hasan on Saturday said she would not be intimidated or silenced by the registration of a case against her. She said that Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav had sought details of the case and asked for a copy of the FIR.
The Kairana MP termed the case "completely baseless" and accused the police administration of trying to suppress opposition voices through politically motivated action. She said she would not be intimidated and would continue raising issues related to victims and public grievances.
Talking to reporters, Hasan said Akhilesh Yadav had taken cognisance of the matter and sought complete information regarding the FIR.
"If the administration believes such cases will silence me or stop me from speaking for victims, it is mistaken," she said, adding that the matter would be raised in the Lok Sabha and complaints would also be submitted to senior police officials in Lucknow.
The controversy stems from an incident on May 19, when Hasan visited the office of the deputy inspector general along with the mother of Monu Kashyap, who was allegedly murdered in Jasala village of Shamli district. The delegation had gone to seek justice in the murder case.
However, after the meeting, allegations surfaced that Hasan and her supporters disrupted traffic outside the DIG office premises. Following the incident, police registered an FIR against her, seven named individuals and 20-25 unidentified persons.
The FIR was registered under sections 126(2), 132, 191(2), and 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Senior Samajwadi Party leader Farhad Alam Gada criticised the administration's action, saying Hasan had gone to the DIG office only to seek justice for the victim's family. He alleged that instead of extending support, the administration adopted a harsh stance against the MP....
