Dehradun, May 12 -- A pilgrimage to Kedarnath turned into days of anxiety for a newly married couple after a woman disappeared during a train journey from Dehradun to Ghaziabad before eventually being traced in Bihar's Begusarai district, police said. Pragya Singh, who got married around three months ago, travelled to Kedarnath with her husband Manish Agrahari. The couple boarded the Nanda Devi Express at Dehradun on May 5 while returning from the pilgrimage. According to police, the incident unfolded around midnight. Manish later told police that he had fallen asleep during the journey. When the train reached Muzaffarnagar station, he woke up and found Pragya missing from her seat. Initially assuming that she had gone to the washroom, he waited for some time before panic began to set in. He searched the washrooms, adjoining compartments and nearby bogies, but could not find her. Her mobile phone was also switched off. He then informed the railway police, following which a missing complaint was registered at Laksar police station. As hours passed without any clue, Manish feared that either an accident or a criminal incident might have taken place during the journey. He also alleged that CCTV cameras at Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee railway stations were not functioning. Haridwar Senior superintendent of police Navneet Singh Bhullar said an FIR was registered at Laksar police station on May 6 after Manish, a resident of Kanpur, alleged that his wife had been abducted by unidentified persons during the train journey. "We constituted a joint team comprising local police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Roorkee under the supervision of the circle officer, Laksar. Using both technical surveillance and manual investigation methods, the team conducted continuous searches at multiple locations along with the family members," Bhullar said. After days of search, police traced Pragya safely in Begusarai district of Bihar on May 10. "During questioning, the woman told police that an argument had taken place between the couple in Dehradun before they boarded the train. During the journey, she moved to another coach and later threw away her SIM card near Laksar railway station. She later deboarded the train at Ghaziabad and boarded another train to Bihar, where her acquaintances live," the SSP said. Bhullar said the woman told police that no criminal incident has taken place with her and that she had gone on her own accord. Police later reunited her with her family, he added....
