PRAYAGRAJ, April 16 -- A 42-year-old woman died in a road accident Wednesday afternoon within the Pipri police station limits in Kaushambi after an auto-rickshaw collided with the motorcycle on which she was a pillion passenger. A young man riding with her sustained injuries. Police said the auto-rickshaw driver involved in the collision fled the scene with the vehicle. The deceased was identified as Kamala Devi, a resident of Husainpur Pawan village under the Puramufti police station area. The injured rider, Vipin Shakya, is Kamala Devi's neighbour. According to police, earlier in the day, Vipin Shakya had taken Kamala Devi to a private hospital near Tilhapur crossing for treatment. While they were returning in the afternoon, their motorcycle was hit head-on by an out-of-control auto-rickshaw near Saraiya in Chail. Vipin is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Police from Chail outpost sent the body for postmortem. A case has been registered against a local youth for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl after luring her to his house on a false pretext in the Kohraur market area. According to the complaint filed by the victim's mother, the accused visited the girl's house on February 25 and told her that her mother was calling for her. When the girl reached his residence, she found no one else present. The family has alleged that the accused committed the offence and later threatened them with dire consequences. Based on the written complaint, police on Wednesday registered a case against Durga Prasad Soni, alias Dablu. SHO Dhananjay Rai of Kohraur police station said appropriate legal action is being initiated and the matter is under investigation. A 29-year-old woman from Amethi lost her life after falling from a motorcycle while returning home from the hospital, but her four-month-old infant escaped without injury. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in the Dehat Kotwali area of Pratapgarh. The woman, Anju, a resident of Sangrampur, had gone to Katra Medniganj with her brother-in-law to collect medicines for her mother. Anju was seated on the motorcycle holding her infant son. As they were returning, another motorcycle rammed into their vehicle from behind. Anju sustained critical head injuries in the fall. Passers-by immediately rushed her to the medical college, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. A 28-year-old married woman allegedly died by suicide in the Begum Sarai area under the Dhoomanganj police station in Prayagraj on Tuesday night after a heated argument with her in-laws during a video call. Police said the woman locked herself in a room and hanged herself while on a call with her husband, sister-in-law and siblings. Family members alleged ongoing domestic discord. Before the incident, she sent her two children out. SHO Dhananjay Pandey said further action will follow the postmortem report. Armed miscreants allegedly looted cash and jewellery worth around Rs 17 lakh from a locked house in Jhunsi late Tuesday night and threatened a sub-inspector with a pistol while fleeing. The house of PWD contractor Kamala Shankar Saroj was vacant as the family was away. Police said three masked men broke in, ransacked the premises and escaped on foot.
