Woman killed for rejecting relative's pressure to elope
Prayagraj, Aug. 21 -- A 26-year-old woman was murdered on Thursday morning in Jaitpur village under the Sarayinayat police station area after she refused a distant relative's repeated demands to elope with him. Police have detained the suspect and recovered the murder weapon.
The victim, Usha, originally from Jaunpur, had married Dinesh, an auto-rickshaw driver, five years ago. The couple and their four-year-old daughter had moved into a rented house in Jaitpur on August 11, arranged by the accused, Ashish.
According to police, Dinesh had gone to his native village on Wednesday night, leaving his wife and daughter at home. Ashish had allegedly been pressuring Usha to abandon her family and accompany him to Gujarat. Enraged after she reprimanded him and rejected his advances, Ashish entered the home around 10 am on Thursday and slit her throat in the kitchen in the presence of her daughter. The crime came to light an hour later when neighbors spotted the victim's crying daughter outside on the street.
A forensic team and police led by DCP (Ganganagar) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat inspected the crime scene. Investigators identified and detained Ashish shortly after using local CCTV footage....
