Woman killed, husband critical after bus hits scooter
PRAYAGRAJ, May 11 -- A 36-year-old woman was killed and her husband seriously injured after a luxury bus rammed head-on with their scooter on the Lucknow-Varanasi Highway near Ghazi Ka Bagh in Raniganj area of Pratapgarh district on Sunday morning.
According to police, the couple was heading to the district headquarters for medical treatment when the accident occurred around 8 am. The luxury bus, travelling from Delhi to Varanasi, allegedly collided head-on with the scooter, throwing both riders onto the road.
The deceased has been identified as Nirmala Yadav, a resident of Surwa Mishrpur village under Fatanpur police station limits. Her husband, 38-year-old Rakesh Yadav, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Medical College hospital after being referred from the trauma centre.
Police officials present near the spot immediately stopped the bus and detained the driver. Passengers travelling in the bus were later sent to Varanasi in other vehicles after the police seized the bus.
Family members said that Rakesh, who works in Surat, had returned home two months ago and was overseeing the construction of a house in Suvansa Bazaar. On Sunday morning, he was taking his wife to the district hospital on a scooter for treatment when the accident occurred.
Following the accident, Nirmala's body remained on the road for some time, causing traffic disruption on the highway. Police later cleared the road and sent the body for a postmortem examination....
