KANPUR, Sept. 6 -- A 45-year-old woman was killed and her husband and son were critically injured after they were allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons following a dispute over the dumping of cow dung in Banda district, police said on Saturday. The incident occurred in Barehta village under the Jaspura police station area on Friday, Sadar circle officer Saurabh Singh said. The victims, identified as Rajbahadur Nishad 50, his wife Geeta and their son Anil, 23, had gone to confront members of the other side after a dispute broke out over children allegedly dumping cow dung on a plot of shared ancestral land, the officer said. During the confrontation, Rajbahadur's elder and younger brothers allegedly attacked the three with a sickle and an axe, leaving them critically injured, Singh said. The injured were taken to a hospital, where doctors declared Geeta dead. Rajbahadur and Anil are undergoing treatment, he said, adding Geeta's body had been sent for the post-mortem examination and further investigation was underway. According to Singh, based on a complaint lodged by Rajbahadur, police have registered a murder case against his brothers Rambahadur and Shivlochan, their wives and their nephew Raju.
