Woman injured after husband allegedly slits her throat over dowry demand
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 17 -- A woman was allegedly brutally beaten and had her throat slit with a blade by her husband over a demand for additional dowry in Umarpur village under the Sandipan Ghat police station area of Kaushambi, police said. The accused fled after the attack and efforts are on to arrest him.
The victim, identified as Roshni Devi, told police that she had married Indrajeet alias Pintu around 12 years ago. She alleged that her husband had been harassing her for additional dowry since their marriage.
She said that over the past few days, he had been pressuring her to bring Rs.2 lakh from her parental home and would frequently abuse and assault her over the demand.
According to her complaint, on the night of August 11, Indrajeet again assaulted her when the demand was not met. He allegedly attacked her throat with a blade, leaving her seriously injured, before fleeing from the spot.
The woman's in-laws admitted her to a private hospital in Puramufti for treatment. Following this, members of her parental family reached the hospital and took over her care, she said.
Police registered a case on the basis of Roshni's complaint and launched a search for the accused.
Sandipan Ghat station house officer Ashutosh Singh said efforts were underway to arrest the accused.
