Woman held with drugs worth Rs.60L
Haldwani, March 27 -- Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman and recovered 203 grams of smack worth about Rs.60 lakh from her during a late-night checking operation in Haldwani in Nainital district, police said on Thursday.
According to police, the action was taken after the police received a tip-off regarding a smuggling racket of a large quantity of narcotics in the city.
Acting on the information received, senior superintendent of police Nainital Manjunath TC said a joint team of police and the special operations group was formed under the supervision of SP City Manoj Katyal following the information.
"On Wednesday night, we received a tip-off that a large quantity of smack was being smuggled into Haldwani," SSP Manjunath TC said.
"Acting on the information, a joint team of police and SOG launched a checking drive," he added.
During the operation, the police set up a checking point in the adjacent areas, including near Bel Baba Temple on Rampur Road.
The team intercepted a woman during the checking and conducted a search, during which 203 grams of smack was recovered from her possession.
The accused was identified as Kanika (40), wife of Vijay and a resident of Shiv Nagar in the Transit Camp area of Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district.
Police said the recovered contraband has an estimated market value of around Rs.60 lakh.
An first informatin report (FIR) has been registered against the accused under sections 8 and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused told the police that she had procured the smack from a drug smuggler in Bilaspur in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh and had come to Haldwani to sell it in the region.
Police said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the smuggling network....
