PRAYAGRAJ, April 2 -- A 20-year-old woman died after allegedly jumping in front of a passenger train in Pratapgarh on Wednesday morning, officials said. The woman, a resident of a village under Nawabganj police station limits, had left home earlier in the day. She was reportedly seen collecting firewood near the railway tracks before the incident. At around 7.30 am, near Narauli village, she suddenly jumped in front of a Kanpur-bound passenger train approaching from the Unchahar side. The loco pilot could not stop the train in time, and she died on the spot. The loco pilot informed the control room. The train remained halted until the body was removed. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force and local police reached the spot. After the track was cleared, the train resumed its journey towards Lucknow about 45 minutes later. Station house officer Santosh Singh said the deceased was the second among five sisters. An investigation is underway to ascertain the reason behind the incident. A 30-year-old man was killed after an unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle on the Kanpur-Varanasi highway in Pratapgarh early Wednesday morning, police said. The deceased, Sonu ,30, also known as Peer Mohammad, was the son of Noor Mohammad and a native of Semra village under Udaipur police station area. He lived in Salahpur in Prayagraj. According to officials, he was returning home from Prayagraj when a vehicle struck his motorcycle near Jehanabad village at around 3 am. The impact threw him onto the road, after which the vehicle ran over him and fled. Inspector Satyendra Singh reached the spot with a police team. The injured man was taken to a Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police said they registered a case and sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
