Woman dies after falling from moped, run over by truck
PRAYAGRAJ, June 29 -- A 35-year-old woman died after she fell from a moving moped and was run over by a truck in Pratapgarh's Lalganj area on Sunday morning. Police identified the deceased as Nisha Singh, a resident of Katra Matadin Purwara under Lalganj Kotwali police station.
According to police, Nisha was travelling to her sister's house in Lakhraon village on a moped driven by her nephew, Devendra Pratap Singh. Her five-year-old daughter was also with them.
The accident took place at around 10.30 am near Indira Chowk on Ghuisarnath Dham Road. Police said Nisha lost her balance and fell onto the road after the moped hit a jolt.
Before she could move to safety, a truck coming from the Ghuisarnath Dham side ran over her. She died on the spot due to severe injuries. Devendra and the child escaped unhurt.
Local residents stopped the truck, caught the driver and informed the police.
Police reached the spot, took the driver into custody and seized the truck. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. Further legal action is underway.
A farmer and his son died after being electrocuted while working near a tubewell in Prayagraj's Bara area on Sunday morning, police said.
The deceased were identified as Vinod Kumar Bind ,60, and his son, Dhanu Kumar, residents of Bara Khas village.
According to family members, Dhanu was removing weeds from a brinjal nursery near their house, while Vinod went to a nearby tubewell. Police said Vinod came into contact with a live electric current while clearing grass around the tubewell and collapsed. When Vinod did not return, Dhanu went to check on him.
As he tried to help his father, he also came into contact with the live current and collapsed.
Relatives and villagers rushed both men to a private hospital in Jasra, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
After receiving information, Bara police reached the village, took custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Two men were arrested with 101 grams of smack near the Saiyamban railway line in Pratapgarh on Saturday night, police said.
According to police, the Bhangwa Chungi outpost in-charge, Amit Singh, and his team stopped and searched two men during a checking drive near the railway tracks. During the search, police recovered 101 grams of smack and arrested both men.
The accused were identified as Dipanshu Singh and Ratan Kesarwani, both residents of Babaganj in Pratapgarh. Police registered a case against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and started legal proceedings.
Circle officer (city) Prashant Raj Hudda said the arrests were made under Operation Prahar, a district-wide campaign against crime and illegal activities.
Kotwali station house officer Subhash Yadav said Dipanshu Singh had previously been jailed in a motorcycle theft case.
Ratan Kesarwani had earlier been booked in a cannabis sale case in Raniganj. Police said they are investigating the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics....
