PRAYAGRAJ, June 24 -- A young woman climbed a mobile tower in the Hathigawan area of Pratapgarh on Tuesday after her family opposed her wish to marry and live with her female friend. The dramatic incident drew a large crowd before police persuaded her to come down safely. According to police, the woman, around 20 years old and a resident of a village under Hathigawan police station limits, had been insisting on marrying her female friend. Her family had reportedly been opposing the relationship. Tensions escalated after the friend's mother raised objections, following which the young woman's mother reprimanded her. Upset by the situation, the woman went to Malaka Razakpur village and climbed a mobile tower, demanding that her wish be accepted. News of the incident quickly spread, attracting residents from nearby villages to the spot. Station officer Satyendra Singh, along with sub-inspector Rakhi Singh and constables Priya Maurya and Seema Gupta, rushed to the scene. After prolonged counselling and persuasion, police succeeded in convincing the woman to come down from the tower. She was subsequently taken to the police station, where family members also tried to persuade her. However, she reportedly remained firm in her decision and refused to change her stance.
