PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 9 -- A 25-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband with a wooden stick during a domestic dispute in the Manda area of Prayagraj on Tuesday morning, police said. The accused, identified as Anil Kumar Gupta, was taken into custody after villagers informed the police following the incident. The stick allegedly used in the crime was also recovered, police said. The incident took place in Bhairopur village under the Manda police station. According to a preliminary police investigation, Anil and his wife Manju had an argument, during which he allegedly attacked her with a stick. She suffered a serious head injury and died due to excessive bleeding. Police said Anil, a tractor mechanic, had married Manju, daughter of Baijnath Sahu of Baghour Imilia village in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district, around two years ago. It was his third marriage. His first wife had died after being run over by a train around four years ago, while his second wife had left him a few months after their marriage. Police said Anil and Manju had a significant age difference and he allegedly suspected his wife of an affair, leading to frequent arguments. The couple had no children. Manda station house officer Kuldeep Sharma said the body had been sent for post-mortem examination. A case was registered on a complaint filed by the deceased woman's brother, Raju Sahu, and further legal action was underway. A 44-year-old branch manager of a private finance company was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room near the IFFCO police outpost in Phulpur on Tuesday morning, police said. The deceased, a resident of Lohagajari Khanpur Dandi under Saraimamrej police station, worked as branch manager at the company's Pratappur branch. He had reportedly checked into the hotel with a woman described as his friend on Monday night. According to police, the hotel operator alerted them around 8am after finding Bhartiya unconscious. A police team rushed him to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Phulpur, where doctors declared him dead. Police and forensic teams inspected the room and questioned the hotel operator and the woman, who was taken into custody for questioning. CCTV footage showed the man arriving at the hotel in a car with the woman on Monday night. They remained in the room through the night, police said. No suspicious object was found in the room and the exact cause of death could not be ascertained during the preliminary investigation. The body was sent for postmortem examination. "The exact cause of death will become clear only after the postmortem examination. The family has not yet submitted any complaint. Police are thoroughly investigating the matter from all possible angles," said Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, DCP (Trans-Ganga). A 58-year-old man died after an electricity wire snapped and fell on him in the Mirzapur ward locality of Baira area in Ballia district on Tuesday, police said. The deceased, Hridaya Nand Verma, was taking a walk outside his house in the early hours when the electricity wire fell on him, killing him on the spot, they said. Bairia circle officer Alok Gupta said police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and sent the body for postmortem examination. Police said a case under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the sub-divisional officer of the Bairia electricity sub-station, Hans Raj Yadav, and junior engineer Manoj Kumar Verma.The case was registered on the complaint of the deceased's grandson, Avnish Maurya. The complaint alleged that villagers had repeatedly complained to the two officials about the dilapidated electricity wire. More than 200 complaints had allegedly been made over the past four months. The villagers had also collected money among themselves to get the wire replaced, but it was not changed, the complaint alleged.
