Woman among two die in electrocution incidents in Lko
LUCKNOW, Aug. 17 -- A 35-year-old woman, who remained clinging to an 11,000-volt overhead power line for nearly five minutes before the electricity supply was cut, died after she suffered severe burns, while a 22-year-old construction worker was electrocuted in separate incidents in Mohanlalganj on Sunday.
The first incident occurred at around 9 am in Jairajpuri Colony under Sarojininagar police station. Meera, 35, had gone to the second-floor terrace of her house to dry clothes when her dupatta came in contact with a high-tension line passing dangerously close to the building.
The electric shock caused her to fall onto the projecting slab outside the terrace boundary. Her foot also came in contact with the live wire, leaving her body stuck to the line. Witnesses said her clothes caught fire and smoke continued to rise from her body as she struggled for several minutes.
Residents immediately alerted the nearby power house and got the electricity supply disconnected. She was then brought down and rushed to Sarojininagar community health centre.
She was later referred to the Civil Hospital where she died around 5:30 pm. Meera lived with her husband Sandeep Rawat.
The couple had no children. Sandeep was asleep when the incident occurred.
In the second incident, a 22-year-old construction worker, Manoj, died after contacting an electrical wire while working at an under-construction house in Jyotinagar, Mohanlalganj.
He was rushed to Mohanlalganj community health centre where doctors declared him dead....
