Woman accuses man of cheating her of Rs 4.11 lakh, jewellery
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 27 -- A woman from the Aaspur Devsara area of Pratapgarh has accused a man of cheating her of more than Rs 4.11 lakh and taking gold and silver jewellery worth several lakhs. She alleged that the man had promised to file a court case against her husband and ensure his punishment. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.
According to the complaint lodged at Aaspur Devsara police station, the woman, a resident of Dhaurhara village, is married to Vinod Kumar, a resident of Koiripur village under Chanda police station in Sultanpur district. She alleged that she approached the police after a dispute over her husband's alleged relationship with another woman from his village. During this period, she came into contact with Shailendra Singh alias Rajan Singh, a resident of Ahopur Manapur village. The accused allegedly assured her that he would file a case in a Pratapgarh court and secure a favourable outcome against her husband.
The woman alleged that Shailendra Singh initially took Rs 6,000 from her on the pretext of filing the case. Later, he allegedly withdrew a total of Rs 4,11,211 from her account at the Bank of Baroda branch in Aaspur Devsara through multiple transactions. She further alleged that the accused took jewellery kept at her residence. The jewellery included a 450-gram silver waist belt, 250-gram silver anklets, a 100-gram silver ring and gold ornaments.
According to the complaint, the woman realised that she had been cheated and demanded the return of her money and jewellery. She alleged that the accused then abused her using caste-related remarks and threatened to kill her if she continued to pursue the matter.
The woman also alleged that she and her family received death threats on August 25.
Station officer Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia said a case had been registered against the accused under relevant sections on the basis of the woman's complaint. Police have started an investigation and are examining the allegations....
