PRAYAGRAJ, March 7 -- A young woman was allegedly abducted in broad daylight on Friday while returning home with her younger sister in the Meja area of Prayagraj. The incident angered villagers, who blocked the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway for several hours demanding immediate police action. However, police recovered the woman from Prayagraj Junction and detained a young man within four hours. During the investigation, police said the case appeared to be related to a love marriage. According to the complaint filed by Surya Narayan Yadav, his 20-year-old daughter Pushpa and 12-year-old daughter Rupa were returning from Sonai village around 11 am. The assailants allegedly pushed the younger girl to the ground, gagged Pushpa, and forced her into the vehicle before speeding away towards Mirzapur. Soon after the incident, villagers gathered and blocked the highway near Chauktha Lakhan village. The blockade ended after Sant Prasad Upadhyay arrived with local MLA Sandeep Patel and assured the crowd that the woman would be recovered within eight hours. Police later traced the woman through mobile surveillance and recovered her safely at Prayagraj Junction. The accused youth was taken into custody and a kidnapping case has been registered. Police said they will also identify people who blocked the highway using video evidence and take action against them. ACP Sant Prasad Upadhyay said the preliminary investigation suggested that the woman and the accused were in a relationship and claimed to have had a love marriage. Further action will be taken after her statement is recorded in court. A man accused of killing a 22-year-old youth by electrocution during Holi celebrations in Gopalpur village under the Raniganj police station area has been sent to jail. The victim has been identified as Priyanshu Yadav, son of Hiralal Yadav. According to police, Priyanshu had gone to the accused Rakesh alias Rajababu's house to play Holi on Wednesday evening. Police said an argument broke out between the two during the celebrations. The accused allegedly electrocuted Priyanshu, causing his death on the spot. Based on the complaint filed by the victim's father, police registered a murder case against Rakesh and his wife. A police team led by Prabhat Singh arrested the accused near the Narsinghgarh bridge. During interrogation, the accused reportedly told police he was heavily drunk at the time and committed the crime after a dispute. After the post-mortem, Priyanshu's body reached his home on Thursday evening. The family initially refused to perform the last rites. They demanded financial assistance, a government job for a family member and demolition of the accused's house, claiming it was built on pond land. On Friday, Dheeraj Ojha, along with Vinay Prabhakar Sahni and Ajay Santoshi, visited the family. They assured the family of support and action against the accused. After receiving assurances from the officials, the family agreed to conduct the funeral. A 30-year-old man died during treatment after a road accident involving two friends riding a motorcycle while celebrating Holi. The incident took place on Thursday. According to police, Vinod Kumar Saroj ,32, and Ranjeet ,30, residents of Samaspur Sailwara village under the Manikpur police station area in Pratapgarh district, were travelling on a motorcycle around 5.30 pm on March 5. Police said both men were allegedly drunk when the motorcycle went out of control and overturned. Both suffered serious injuries in the accident. Ranjeet was taken by his family to a private hospital in Prayagraj, where he died during treatment. Vinod Kumar is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kunda. Later, Sandeep Kumar Sonkar, the deceased's brother, filed a complaint accusing Vinod Kumar of beating and killing his brother. Police registered a case based on the complaint and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Narendra Singh said the initial investigation suggested the two men fell from the motorcycle due to intoxication and sustained injuries. However, after the death, the family alleged murder and a case has been registered. Police said the matter is under investigation....
