VARANASI, July 11 -- Two people, a woman and her daughter, were electrocuted on Thursday morning while cutting grass in a field in Bhira-Balua village, located in the Saidpur area of Ghazipur district, police said. A police officer stated that Seema Devi, 45, the wife of Rammurat Yadav and a resident of Bhira-Balua village, was cutting grass in her field with her daughter, Khushi Yadav, 15. Seema Devi accidentally came into contact with a live current running through the iron support wire of a nearby electricity pole and began convulsing. Seeing her mother in distress, Khushi rushed to save her but also fell victim to the electric shock; both sustained severe burns. Following a loud spark from the wire, villagers and family members rushed to the scene and immediately contacted the electricity department to have the power supply cut off. The family then transported both victims to the Saidpur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead. Sub-divisional magistrate Jyoti Chaurasia, Tehsildar Himanshu Singh and circle officer Ramkrishna Tiwari arrived at the hospital. They met with the family, offered their condolences and assured them of all possible financial assistance.
