PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 27 -- Intermittent rainfall has weakened kutcha houses and walls across Prayagraj and Pratapgarh districts, leaving at least two people, including a six-year-old girl, dead in separate incidents and forcing several families to take shelter with neighbours or relatives after their houses collapsed. In Pratapgarh's Antu area, a 50-year-old woman was killed after a rain-weakened wall of an old kutcha house collapsed on her on Wednesday morning. Neeta Devi, wife of Satiram Saroj and resident of Gouradand village, was walking towards her fields around 9am when the wall suddenly caved in. She was buried under the debris. Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot and pulled her out before taking her to the medical college, where doctors declared her dead. Police completed the inquest proceedings and sent the body for post-mortem. Neeta Devi is survived by two sons and a daughter. In another rain-related incident in Pratapgarh, a six-year-old girl, Sejal Pal, was killed after a water-soaked kutcha wall collapsed on her at Champatpur village in Maheshganj police station area on Tuesday night. Sejal, daughter of Rakesh Pal, had gone near the cattle shed when the wall suddenly collapsed and buried her. Her family members rushed her out of the debris, but she died in the incident. On Wednesday, sub-divisional magistrate Ajay Kumar Yadav inspected the spot and met the family members and village pradhan representative Vinod Yadav. The SDM assured the family that Rs.4 lakh would be provided as compensation under the disaster relief provision and directed the lekhpal to prepare a report. Meanwhile, several kutcha houses have collapsed in Prayagraj's Mauaima area amid continuous rain, leaving families with no option but to seek shelter with relatives and neighbours. In Sarai Keshav alias Bagi village, the kutcha house of Asha Maurya, wife of Shiv Lochan Maurya, collapsed due to moisture caused by the incessant rain. Household belongings worth thousands of rupees were damaged. With no place to stay, Asha is currently taking shelter at her uncle's house along with her son and daughter-in-law....
