Willing to wait for talks between Cong leadership, K'taka CM: Reddy
Bengaluru, June 7 -- A day after senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy announced his resignation from Karnataka's newly-constituted cabinet over a dispute on portfolio allocation, he indicated that he was willing to await the outcome of discussions between chief minister DK Shivakumar and the party high command, even as arty general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala claimed that Reddy had withdrawn his resignation.
Reddy maintained that he had never sought any particular portfolio and was merely disappointed over assurances that were not fulfilled.
"Surjewala has appealed to me to withdraw my resignation," Reddy told reporters, while adding that the party leadership had conveyed to him that his resignation would not be accepted.
Reddy' submitted the resignation after being allotted the major and medium irrigation department instead of the Bengaluru development portfolio.
He said he held detailed discussions with Shivakumar at a hotel on Friday and that further consultations were underway. "We discussed everything. Today as well, I have asked Surjewala about all the issues we discussed yesterday," he said.
"Now the chief minister and Surjewala will meet. They will discuss whatever we spoke about yesterday. Let us see what decision they take after that," added Reddy. Asked whether he had been offered any alternative, he said he had already conveyed his views to the leadership.
Meanwhile, Surjewala called Reddy an asset to the Congress, and added that he, along with Shivakumar, former CM Siddaramaiah, state party chief B K Hariprasad, spoke to Reddy after reports of his resignation emerged. "There was some misunderstanding and he will continue to work as a loyal soldier and minister of the party,"he said. Shivakumar also reiterated that he would not accept Reddy's resignation under any circumstances....
