Prayagraj, June 4 -- A man accused of murdering his wife was arrested after a police encounter in Kaushambi late on Tuesday night. Shiv Bhola Nishad of Ghoghpur village, who had been on the run since allegedly strangling his wife Maya Devi ,45, on Monday, sustained a bullet injury to his leg during retaliatory firing by police. He was treated at a medical college hospital and later sent to jail. Police said Nishad, convicted in the 2015 murder of his brother-in-law and released on bail five months ago, frequently argued with his wife over loans she had taken to secure his release. Following a dispute over repayment, he allegedly strangled her with a cloth and fled. Acting on a complaint by his cousin Ram Dayal, police formed three teams to trace him.
