VARANASI, June 27 -- Three people, including a woman and her paramour, were arrested in connection with the murder of the woman's 40-year-old husband, whose body was recovered from the Mahewa Canal under Alinagar police station area of Chandauli district on Friday. Police said the investigation suggests that Urmila Devi allegedly conspired with the two co-accused to have her husband killed because she viewed him as an obstacle to her alleged relationship with one of the co-accused. The accused have been identified as Jitendra Sharma alias Rahul (30), a resident of Lakhmipur Kaithapur village under Mughalsarai police station in Chandauli district; Vinod Pal (51), also a resident of the same village; and the deceased's wife, Urmila Devi, the officer said. He said the deceased was identified as Rajesh Kumar (40), a resident of Mahadevpur village under Mughalsarai police station in Chandauli district. On Thursday, a body was recovered from the canal of the Mahewa-Gauri Minor near the Bilaridih underpass on NH-19. Based on the complaint by the deceased's brother, a case was registered at Alinagar police station. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that Urmila Devi was involved in an illicit relationship with Rahul Sharma, which Rajesh had consistently opposed. Urmila, along with Rahul Sharma and his associate Vinod Pal, allegedly conspired to eliminate Rajesh, said Alinagar SHO Ghanshyam Shukla.
