Mussoorie, Aug. 25 -- Part of a retaining wall at Bhangela Gad on the Yamunotri pilgrimage route near Janki Chatti collapsed after heavy rainfall, which lashed parts of the state up till 8.30am on Monday, officials said. Public works officials said reconstruction work was underway, while the movement of pilgrims towards Yamunotri continued uninterrupted with help from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel. Uttarkashi district disaster management officer Shardul Gusain said the damage was extensive and the PWD was asked to restore the affected portion on priority. In a separate incident, a stretch of the Uttarkashi-Rudraprayag bypass road was blocked early on Monday but was reopened within an hour after disaster management teams cleared the obstruction. Six link roads remained blocked in Tehri district due to landslides, boulders and washouts, while four rural roads were closed in Pauri district. Clearance operations were underway. Meanwhile, the state recorded 5.4 mm rainfall against a normal of 7.5 mm in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Monday.
