LUCKNOW, Oct. 4 -- Following continuous rain for three days last week and waterlogging in several parts of Lucknow, local health administration has intensified anti-larva spraying, source reduction and fogging across the state capital to contain vector-borne diseases. District malaria officer Ritu Srivastava said 367 notices have been issued after mosquito-larvae breeding was detected in stagnant water at various locations, including flood-affected areas and vacant plots in residential colonies. "Our teams are targeting vulnerable areas and locations where the highest number of cases have been reported. The focus is on source reduction and eliminating mosquito-breeding sites," Srivastava added. According to health department, 342 dengue cases, 258 of malaria and 19 chikungunya cases have been reported in Lucknow till October 3. Officials said most patients were recovering at home and hospitalisation had remained limited. Health teams are conducting surveillance and preventive operations in areas with water accumulation, while fogging and anti-larva measures have been intensified after the recent rainfall. Officials appealed to residents to prevent water accumulation in and around homes, regularly empty coolers and flower pots, dispose of discarded tyres properly and use mosquito nets and repellents to reduce the risk of dengue and other vector-borne diseases....
