Varsity eases LLB pass criteria to 40% aggregate
LUCKNOW, June 2 -- All Law students (LLB 5 years integrated) and (LLB 3 years) at Lucknow University will now be automatically promoted from odd to even semesters, even if they have backlogs, and they will no longer need to pass theory and internal exams separately.
This move came into action by immediate effect from the current first year students as the university aligned the law courses with NEP (National Education Policy) reforms. Students now only need 40% marks in total - combining written exam and internal assessment - to pass a subject. Earlier, failing either component meant failing the subject. The weightage has also shifted from 90:10 to 75:25, giving more value to assignments, projects, and attendance.
However, students must still secure 45% aggregate across all subjects in a semester to be declared passed.
Students will be required to secure a minimum of 40 marks out of the combined total of 100 marks to pass a subject. According to the Office of the Controller of Examinations, revised mark sheets for the First Semester law students will be issued shortly in accordance with the new regulations. Immediately after the release of the revised mark sheets, eligible students can fill out examination forms for the upcoming semester.
Speaking on the decision, vice-chancellor prof JP Saini said that the university's priority is to align legal education with contemporary standards and make the academic journey more accessible for students. "The new provision where a student will pass an examination with an aggregate of 40% marks by combining theory and internal assessment, along with the 75:25 evaluation system, will reduce academic stress for students. The future of students currently enrolled in the programme will become more secure under this policy," said Saini....
