VARANASI, Sept. 30 -- Eastern Uttar Pradesh's first international cricket stadium, located in Ganjari, is nearing completion and is expected to be inaugurated in October. While an official date is yet to be finalised, senior officials indicate the event may take place in the second week of October, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to inaugurate the ceremony. The stadium, which serves as a landmark project for the region, showcases architectural designs deeply inspired by the city's spiritual heritage and its association with Lord Shiva. The structure features iconic elements such as crescent-shaped roof covers, trident-shaped floodlights mounted on 65-metre-tall poles, seating modeled after the city's famous ghat steps and a facade adorned with Bilvapatra-shaped metallic sheets. Spread across 30.66 acres, the modern sports facility has been developed at a cost of approximately Rs.451 crore. It will have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators. Recently, a team including divisional commissioner S Rajalingam, district magistrate Satyendra Kumar and representatives from the UP Cricket Association inspected the site and provided the necessary clearances for its opening. The Ganjari facility is poised to become a premier training and competition hub for young cricketers not only from UP but also from neighbouring states, including Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This will be the third venue in UP equipped to host international cricket matches, joining the existing stadiums in Kanpur and Lucknow.
