Varanasi can emerge as world-class tourism destination: Union tourism secretary
VARANASI, Aug. 23 -- Union tourism secretary Bhuvnesh Kumar on Saturday said Varanasi has immense potential to emerge as a world-class tourism destination, stressing the need to improve infrastructure, tourist amenities, hospitality, safety, digital engagement and overall visitor experience.
Kumar was speaking at a workshop for homestay and bed-and-breakfast operators, hoteliers and other tourism stakeholders, organised by the ministry of tourism in collaboration with online travel aggregators.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised developing at least one world-class competitive tourism destination in every state.
The workshop aimed to strengthen professionalism and service standards among local tourism enterprises and improve the quality of services offered to tourists.
Kumar said the initiative would help tourism entrepreneurs adopt professional practices, improve service standards, use digital platforms effectively and respond to changing tourist expectations.
The workshop included presentations by leading online travel aggregators on operational management, hospitality, customer service, hygiene and safety, online reviews, and social media and digital promotion....
