Valley of Flowers park reopens for tourists
Mussoorie, June 2 -- The Valley of Flowers National Park in Chamoli district was reopened for tourists on Monday.
The park will remain open to visitors until October 31, said officials.
Nanda Devi National Park divisional forest officer (DFO) Abhimanyu Singh on Sunday inspected tourist facilities, safety arrangements and sanitation measures along the trek routes .
Officials said 108 tourists- included 70 men, 11 women, 24 students and three children between 12 and 18 years of age- visited the valley on opening day
Forest range officer Chetna Kandpal said that Forest Guard Manoj Bhatt and a departmental guide accompanied the first batches of tourists.
"To strengthen awareness about the region's rare ecosystem, a new interpretation centre has been established at Ghangaria this year. The facility will educate visitors about the valley's unique biodiversity, endangered medicinal plants and ongoing conservation efforts," she added.
Forest authorities have urged visitors to follow the park's code of conduct and cooperate with field staff in preserving the fragile Himalayan ecosystem of the UNESCO World Heritage Site....
