Lucknow, July 21 -- The fourth edition of the UP T20 League will begin on August 14 in Lucknow. On Monday, its governing council chief Sanjay Kapoor unveiled several initiatives at the ticket launch here saying that cricket lovers should "feel this event as their own and enjoy the game at both the venues." The tournament is being held in two venues, Lucknow and Kanpur, for the first time. The Kanpur Cricket Association president emphasised the league's record as a talent conveyor belt to the Indian Premier League. "The last three editions of the UP T20 League have produced many cricketers who went on to play for different IPL franchises. It's an opportunity for our youngsters to showcase their talent and draw the attention of IPL scouts." The tournament will open with a clash between Kashi Rudras and defending champions Meerut Mavericks at Lucknow's Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. The competition will feature 34 matches, 13 double-header (weekend) days and eight single-header days. The final will be played at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on September 6. The move to split venues is logistical and strategic. Lucknow will stage 22 matches across 13 match days. The tournament then shifts to Kanpur where the remaining 12 matches, including the knockout stages and the final, will be played. This is designed to maintain the momentum across two of Uttar Pradesh's largest cricketing centres while spreading economic and sporting benefits regionally. Kashi Rudras return to action the day after the opener against Kanpur Superstars, while the Mavericks meet Gaur Gorakhpur Lions in the evening. Noida Kings will face Lucknow Falcons on August 17, Rudras will meet Gorakhpur on August 18, and Falcons will go up against Mavericks on August 19. August 20 will feature a double-header with Gorakhpur facing Noida and Kanpur Superstars taking on Kashi Rudras. The calendar keeps a steady stream of marquee matchups to maintain fan interest before the shift to Kanpur, where matches will begin on August 28 with Kashi Rudras taking on Noida Kings. Kapoor's fan-centric ideas aim to deepen local engagement. They include enhanced in-stadium experiences, community outreach programmes, talent hunts and greater visibility for local academies and grassroots coaches. Cricketers Rinku Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Dhruv Jurel, Yash Dayal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sameer Rizvi, Mohsin Khan etc., will be seen in action for different teams this season too.
