LUCKNOW, May 20 -- Amid the ongoing heatwave across the state, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) managing director Nitish Kumar on Tuesday directed power distribution companies (discoms) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in accordance with the prescribed roster and maintain heightened vigilance to avoid disruptions. Reviewing the functioning of distribution utilities, Kumar said senior officials should continuously monitor power supply arrangements and ensure quick restoration in case of transformer failures. He stressed that damaged transformers must be replaced within the stipulated time and supply normalised at the earliest. Kumar also sought explanations from four officials, including two chief engineers, over delays and unsatisfactory responses on key operational issues. Explanations were sought from the chief engineers of Muzaffarnagar and Amausi (Lucknow) over delays in business plan-related works, while a superintending engineer in Muzaffarnagar was asked to explain issues related to transformer damage. An executive engineer in Alapur was also warned over transformer-related concerns. Kumar said nearly 50,000 smart meters and conventional check meters have been examined so far under an ongoing verification drive, with readings found to be fully compliant with prescribed standards. He directed officials to publicise check meter measurement details among consumers. The MD also instructed officials to ensure no applications remained pending on the Jhatpat portal and emphasised daily resolution of smart meter complaints, accurate billing and faster redressal of issues related to solar connections and net metering.
