UPESSC confirms exams, interviews for recruiting principals, headmasters
PRAYAGRAJ, April 29 -- The uncertainty surrounding the recruitment process for principals in 4,517 government-aided secondary schools has now been clarified. In response to an RTI application, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) confirmed that the selection will be carried out through a written examination followed by an interview.
Although the state government had earlier directed that recruitment would be based on a written examination and interview, the absence of this provision in the newly enacted UPESSC Act created uncertainty among candidates.
In the 2013 advertisement, the now-dissolved UP Secondary Education Service Selection Board had selected principals solely through interviews. Now, the newly constituted UPESSC is preparing to recruit Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT), Post Graduate Teachers (PGT), along with principals and headmasters ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The process will begin with online requisitions, for which a dedicated portal has already been set up.
According to information received by the UP Education Directorate, there are currently 1,502 vacant principal posts in intermediate colleges and 1,003 vacant headmaster posts in high schools, making a total of 2,505 vacancies.
