LUCKNOW, Oct. 1 -- The Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy squad's announcement was delayed "by a day or two" on Wednesday after the state unit's (UPCA) AGM in Kanpur saw heated exchanges between two senior officials. The naming of the support staff for 2026-27 was also delayed while elections for the UP T20 League Governing Council were completed. For the UPT20 League GC, two nominations were received for two posts. Sanjay Kapoor was re-elected chairman and Sanjeev Singh retained as a member. Four directors-Abhishek Singhania, Ashok Chaturvedi, Riyasat Ali and Pradeep Kumar Gupta-were reappointed having completed their tenure. The formation of all UPCA committees was put on hold due to a lack of consensus on names proposed by the Cricket Advisory Committee. The final decision will be taken by UPCA president Nidhipati Singhania and secretary Prem Manohar Gupta with an announcement expected in a few days. The meeting was disrupted after UPCA vice-president Rakesh Mishra challenged the constitution of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) arguing that the process violated rules. He said clause 26 of the UPCA constitution bars players who have left the state to play elsewhere from CAC membership, contending that former senior players and new support staff were being sidelined. However, Gupta said the CAC has been formed in line with the constitution. UPCA joint secretary Omer Mustafa Hasan then reportedly confronted Mishra over a court case linked to alleged rule violations by certain office-bearers. "There were some arguments between the two officials of the UPCA today at the AGM, but nothing of serious nature. It was just an internal issue and was settled amicably," Gupta said after the meeting. He said announcements of the Ranji team and support staff and other committees will be made in a few days. "UP's first match starts on October 11 in Bihar and I hope that we will announce the team as well as support staff by Friday," he said. The AGM appointed former judge Vineet Saran as ombudsman and Krishna Murari as ethics officer. UPCA vice-president Rajeev Shukla said the Deoria unit has been suspended. With the lease for the Kamala Club in Kanpur coming to an end and the Green Park Stadium undergoing renovation, UPCA is entering into an agreement for a new stadium at Kanpur University....
