LUCKNOW, Oct. 28 -- Uttar Pradesh produced a disciplined all-round display to defeat Pondicherry by 54 runs to score their second consecutive win in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy Elite tie, at the Deccan Gymkhana Cricket Ground, Pune, on Tuesday. After posting 135/6 in their 20 overs, Uttar Pradesh restricted Pondicherry to 81/8. Uttar Pradesh's innings began poorly, with Tripti Singh falling for four and Muskan Malik for four as the side slipped to 19/2 in the sixth over. But inform Varnika Singh led from the front and anchored the recovery with a composed 30 off 32 balls, striking two fours and a six, before Ayushi Soni added a steady 29 from 34 deliveries. The innings gained momentum in the final overs. Archana Devi struck an aggressive 30 from just 17 balls, including three fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 176.47, while Garima Yadav finished unbeaten on 18 from six deliveries, hitting two sixes. Their late hitting lifted Uttar Pradesh to 135/6, a competitive total on a pitch where scoring was not easy. Challuru Prathyusha was Pondicherry's most successful bowler with 2/26 from three overs, while Mansi Joshi, M Revathi and Abirame Ramamurthy took one wicket each. Sayali Lonkar was particularly economical, conceding only five runs in two overs. Pondicherry's reply never gathered pace. They lost Elayaperumal Kavisha for six in the third over and were 50/2 after 12.1 overs, with Sonal Patil and Yashi Pandey trying to rebuild. Patil made 26 off 38 balls and Pandey 18 from 29, but neither could accelerate sufficiently against Uttar Pradesh's disciplined attack. Once Patil was dismissed for 58/3 in the 14th over, the chase unravelled. Pondicherry lost regular wickets, slipping from 66/4 to 75/8, with the last five wickets falling for just nine runs. Revathi Maha's unbeaten 11 off 10 balls could not prevent the innings from closing at 81/8 in 20 overs. Uttar Pradesh's bowlers shared the wickets effectively. Garima Yadav took 2/13 in four overs, Sonam Yadav claimed 2/10, and Archana Devi picked up 2/21. Sandhya Chhetri and Khushi Tyagi added one wicket apiece, with Tyagi conceding only eight runs in three overs. In Lucknow, Raileways beat Kerala by eight wickets, Tamil Nadu beat Tripura by 32 runs, Gujarat defeated Sikkim by eight wickets. Chasing Kerala's total of 110, Railways romped home with eight balls to spare, at the Atal Biharu Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. In the second match of the day, Tamil Nadu piled up 155/8 in 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss. In reply, Tripura could make 123/5. Former joint runners-up Uttar Pradesh had a poor start in their Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy tie against hosts Hyderabad, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday as they could score just 168 in their first innings. In reply, Hyderabad were 82/2 in 32 overs, trailing by 86 runs. Uttar Pradesh chose to bat but made a difficult start, losing Adarsh Singh without scoring and slipping to 35/4 inside 10 overs. Swastik Chikara struck a quick 26 from 18 balls, but once he fell, Hyderabad's bowlers tightened the game. Skipper Sameer Rizvi top-scored with a composed 40 off 62 deliveries, while wicketkeeper Kaartikaya Singh made 28 from 25 balls. Prashant Veer added 18 in a patient 58-ball innings, but the lower order could not build a substantial partnership. Nishanth S was Hyderabad's standout bowler, taking 5/30 from 14 disciplined overs at an economy of 2.14. Pranav Varma supported him well with 3/36, while Dinesh Rathod claimed 2/69. Hyderabad's reply began steadily despite an early setback. Aaron George made 19 before being dismissed by Vipraj Nigam, and captain Aman Rao fell for seven, also to Nigam, leaving Hyderabad at 51/2. Pattapu Raghava then anchored the innings with an unbeaten 30 from 78 balls, while wicketkeeper Avanish Rao finished the day not out on 17 from 21 deliveries. Their unbroken third-wicket stand carried Hyderabad to stumps without further damage. Vipraj Nigam was Uttar Pradesh's most successful bowler with 2/28 from 11 overs. Ayush Choudhary, Prashant Veer and Aquib Khan kept things tight but went wicketless. With eight wickets in hand and only 86 runs behind, Hyderabad hold the advantage heading into Day 2....
