UP STF arrests man for duping SI aspirants with fake paper leak offer
LUCKNOW, March 16 -- The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force arrested a man in Mathura for allegedly cheating candidates by promising them the question paper for the Uttar Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector recruitment examination in return for large sums of money, police officials said in a press note shared with the media on Sunday.
Officials said the accused, Anuj Kumar, a resident of Haveli village under the Raya police station area in Mathura district, was arrested near Rajni Library in the Shivpuri locality of Raya town at around 8:40 pm on Saturday.
According to officials, the action was taken following intelligence inputs received by the STF while monitoring online and offline platforms to ensure the integrity of the Sub-Inspector recruitment examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. An STF team from the Meerut field unit intercepted the suspect and recovered a mobile phone, two admit cards related to the SI recruitment examination, four admit cards of other examinations, WhatsApp chat records, and a general knowledge book.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly told investigators that he came in contact with a man identified as Gopal Rawat, who proposed cheating candidates by claiming he could arrange the exam paper. Candidates were allegedly asked to pay Rs.22 lakh to ensure they passed the examination, with an advance of around Rs.3 lakh taken initially.
Police said Anuj Kumar's role was to identify candidates and introduce them to his associates, after which the money collected would be shared among gang members. A case has been registered at Raya police station in Mathura under relevant provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination Act and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
