LUCKNOW, July 31 -- Athletes from 61 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including hosts Lucknow, will vie for 194 gold medals across the 42nd Sub-Junior, 10th Cadet, 44th Junior, and 43rd Senior Kyorugi, as well as the 10th Poomsae Uttar Pradesh State Taekwondo Championships. A special highlight of this year's event will be the introduction of a virtual taekwondo competition-a first for the championship. Organized by the Lucknow District Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Taekwondo Association, the three-day championship is being held from July 31 to August 2, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Multipurpose Hall within the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium. On Thursday, the eve of the championship, the weigh-in process for participating athletes arriving from various districts was conducted. Over 2,000 athletes across various age groups will compete for 194 gold, 194 silver, and 388 bronze medals in Kyorugi (combat) and Poomsae (form) events. In the Kyorugi category, matches will be held across 14 weight classes each for boys and girls in the Sub-Junior division, 10 each in Cadet, 10 each in Junior, and 8 each in Senior divisions. Meanwhile, a total of 65 events will be conducted in Poomsae. Midwinter Club defeated RA Boys Club 3-0 to collect full points in the District Football League 2026, at the Chowk Stadium here on Thursday. Gaurav opened the account in the sixth minute (1-0), whereas Alok and Aman netted in the second half.
