UP ministers growing rich, people getting poor: Cong
LUCKNOW, May 30 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress leaders on Friday alleged that the leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including its ministers, were growing rich while people in the state were becoming poor even as they demanded a probe into their assets.
Party leaders made the allegation and demanded the probe during press conferences they held at 18 districts of the state on the directives of UP Congress chief Ajay Rai.
CP Rai, chairman of UP Congress media department, alleged that a Dalit student was abducted and held captive for 16 days and subjected to sexual assault in Mahoba a few days ago. He further alleged that no minister or legislator from the government visited the victim's home. When the UP Congress president set out to visit the victim's home, the administration made every possible attempt to stop him, he further alleged while addressing media in Lucknow. "Agra Municipal Corporation waived dues amounting to Rs.430 crore owed by the private power utility. Prior to this, the BJP government had already waived thousands of crores in dues owed by various capitalists, subsequently extracting political donations from them," Rai further alleged.
"From the MDM scheme to road construction, corruption is rampant in every sector. It is a direct consequence of corruption that a 700-metre-long bridge under construction over the Betwa river in Hamirpur-built at a cost of Rs.90 crore-could not withstand even a single gust of wind. It collapsed and led to the death of six innocent people," the Congress leader further alleged....
