UP keeps power affordable while meeting record demand: Minister
Lucknow, July 4 -- Uttar Pradesh has met a record peak electricity demand of 32,673 MW without increasing power tariffs, energy minister AK Sharma said on Friday, asserting that the state had been able to combine affordable electricity with record levels of power supply.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Sharma said the government had ensured uninterrupted power while keeping electricity affordable for consumers across categories. He claimed UP had emerged as one of the country's best-performing states in power supply. He pointed out that there had been announced a 20% tariff concession for public electric vehicle (EV) charging during solar hours (9 am to 4 pm) to encourage charging when low-cost solar power is available. The initiative, he said, would promote clean mobility and greater use of renewable energy.
Sharma said Uttar Pradesh recently met its highest electricity demand of 32,673 MW, calling it a new national record. He claimed that the state's solar power generation now exceeds the thermal power output during previous governments.
