PRAYAGRAJ, July 31 -- The recruitment process for Block Education Officers (BEOs) in the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department is set to resume after the state government removed ambiguity over the prescribed educational qualification. The Basic Education Directorate is now preparing to send a fresh requisition to the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) for filling the vacant posts, stated officials confirming the move. In a letter issued on July 29, special secretary Avdhesh Tiwari informed additional director of basic education Manoj Kumar Dwivedi that no course is considered equivalent to the Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree, thereby clarifying the eligibility criteria for the post according to which only candidates with BEd degrees are eligible. Following the clarification, the Basic Education Directorate has now initiated the process of forwarding the recruitment proposal to the UPPSC. Before sending the online requisition, the department will complete verification of reservation details and newly arisen vacancies. Officials expect the requisition to be sent before August 15, said a senior official aware of the development. The department currently has more than 350 vacancies against the sanctioned strength of 1,031 BEO posts. The number of vacant posts increased after 164 Block Education Officers were promoted as Basic Shiksha Adhikaris (BSAs) and to equivalent posts on May 26. The Directorate had sent a recruitment requisition to the UPPSC last year, but the commission returned it as the relevant service rules had not been amended at the time. The last major BEO recruitment was conducted by the UPPSC in 2019 for 309 posts, attracting more than five lakh applicants.
