UP govt approves Rs.2L aid for minor trafficking and assault victim
VARANASI, May 28 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has approved financial assistance of Rs.2 lakh from the chief minister's discretionary fund for a minor victim of alleged human trafficking and sexual assault in Varanasi. The victim belongs to Bihar. The Varanasi administration had sent a proposal seeking immediate aid, which was approved by the government, according to an official communique.
Police arrested three accused, including the victim's mother, on May 20 and sent them to jail. District magistrate Satyendra Kumar said the girl was produced before the Child Welfare Committee and underwent medical examination on the same day. She has been placed in a State-run children's home for girls.
He said psychiatrists are counselling the girl and legal assistance is also being provided for her rehabilitation and the judicial process.
According to police, the victim was allegedly forced into a fraudulent marriage by her mother for money. Sarnath police have registered a case under the POCSO Act, including charges of human trafficking and rape....
