AGRA, Sept. 30 -- Police have booked Congress state general secretary (organisation) Anil Yadav and Mathura district president Mukesh Dhangar, along with six others and 15-20 unidentified people, under various sections of the the BNS, including attempt to murder, in connection with Monday's protest at the paternal house of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar in Vijay Nagar Colony in Agra, officials said on Tuesday. On a complaint lodged by Gaurav Kumar Gupta, sub-inspector and in-charge of the Ring Road police outpost, the FIR was registered at Hari Parvat police station late on Monday under sections 109(2) (attempt to murder), 121(2) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to a public servant to deter him from duty), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant), 191(1) (rioting), 333 (house trespass), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the BNS and Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1932, they added. According to the FIR, police received information on Monday that a crowd had gathered outside the CEC's paternal house in Vijay Nagar Colony, where his elderly parents were present. The group allegedly painted the walls black and attempted to enter the house. Police reached the spot and found 15-20 people raising slogans. When homeguard Dinesh Kumar tried to pacify them, the group allegedly surrounded him and blocked his way. Some members then entered the house through the main gate, pushing aside the homeguard who tried to stop them, states the FIR a copy of which is with HT. It further states that the homeguard, described as elderly and a heart patient, fell to the ground after being struck on the head with a solid object and lost consciousness. Despite this, the commotion continued. The complainant also attempted to pacify the group and asked them to stop, but they allegedly obstructed public servants from performing their duties and abused the CEC, policemen and district administration in provocative language. The FIR says the incident caused panic and a stampede-like situation in the locality, forcing residents to remain indoors. Additional police force reached the spot, following which the protesters allegedly left in their cars. Police took control of the situation and shifted the injured homeguard to a nearby health centre. The FIR also states that the group posted the incident on social media. Based on information gathered by police, the names of some of those allegedly involved came to light, including Dhangar, Yadav, Rajesh, Mukesh Gaur, Karan Singh Nishad, Vikram Valmiki, Umesh Sharma and Raja Gautam, besides others yet to be identified. Meanwhile, six of the eight Congressmen were sent to judicial custody till October 3 by the chief judicial magistrate's court here on Tuesday. Anil Yadav, Mukesh Dhangar, Manoj Gaur, Raja Gautam, Pankaj Chaudhary and Rajesh Kumar were produced before the court amid tight security, officials said. UP Congress on Tuesday dismissed as "baseless" the cases registered against party workers following protests against CEC Gyanesh Kumar on Monday. Addressing a press conference, UP Congress president Ajay Rai said, "No worker engaged in any irresponsible behaviour. There were no scuffles, no vandalism, no obstruction of official work and no damage to police vehicles or public property. "...
