AGRA, Aug. 2 -- Uttar Pradesh higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyaya met Maharashtra culture minister Ashish Shelar in Mumbai and invited him to visit Agra to review progress on the proposed memorial dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The meeting comes after chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced that land acquisition for the memorial is underway and assured its early construction. BJP leader Sunil Singh was also present during the meeting. Upadhyaya presented a book on 12 Unesco-recognised forts in India, while Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has already assured support for the project. Upadhyaya said historical research and revenue records, along with inputs from the Jaipur royal family, indicate that Kothi Meena Bazar in Agra was the place where Shivaji Maharaj was allegedly held captive by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb before making his escape.
