Unnao woman murder case:Lucknow police nab main accused
LUCKNOW, Oct. 30 -- Interrogation of the main accused arrested in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old woman from Unnao-whose body was found near the Kisan Path underpass in Lucknow on October 24-revealed that the accused killed her after she demanded back Rs.5 lakh she had given him earlier after he promised to marry her, Lucknow police said on Thursday.
They said they arrested Maroof Naeem Khan, 36, a resident of Unnao's Bangarmau, on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Ashiya alias Nargis alias Tina.
According to DCP (West) JK Srivastava, Khan had allegedly promised to marry the woman and borrowed Rs.5 lakh from her. He allegedly killed her after she demanded her money back on coming to know that he had married another woman.
Police said during interrogation, the accused revealed that both the woman and he had been married earlier and had separated from their spouses. Police said the accused told investigators that he married another woman on October 22. When Ashiya learnt of the marriage, she demanded her money back and threatened to implicate him in a legal case.
"Unable to repay the amount, Khan allegedly planned the murder with his friend Amir Khan," a police press note said. He allegedly took the woman in a car, strangled her and dumped her body near the Saidpur underpass, it added. Khan's alleged accomplice's role is being investigated. When the woman's body was discovered on October 24, the circumstances surrounding her death were unclear. Her identity was established through an Aadhaar card recovered from her bag. A paper bearing four names and a four-digit number, which emerged as a key lead during the initial investigation, was also being examined by investigators.
The post-mortem examination indicated strangulation as the cause of death, police said. An FIR was registered at Dubagga police station on October 25 under sections 103(1) and 238(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unidentified accused.
Khan was arrested late on October 28 following a tip-off. Investigators recovered the woman's Aadhaar card, a mobile phone and a car allegedly used in the crime, police said. The woman's family had earlier told police that she had been married twice and was living separately from her second husband. She had a four-year-old daughter.
Police are now investigating the woman's movements before her death, corroborating the accused's account and examining whether others helped plan or execute the crime, police said.
According to her family, Ashiya had earlier left home with a man from her village and lived in Delhi where she gave birth to a daughter. After returning home, she married Nasir alias Auwa, a resident of Unnao's Nawabganj area. However, she reportedly returned to her parental home the day after the nikah and did not go back to her husband. She later lived in rented accommodation in Safipur and also stayed at her sister's house in Nawabganj, the family said....
