LUCKNOW, July 11 -- Uttar Pradesh will plant over 40 crore saplings this year, including 35 crore on July 12, which is 10 crore more than the target allotted by the centre. "Uttar Pradesh was allotted highest target (30 crore), followed by Telangana (13 crore) and Rajasthan (10 crore) and Gujarat (8 crore) for the annual plantation drive. We will plant a total 40 crore saplings, of which over 5 crore were already planted on June 5," said forest minister Arun K Saxena addressing a press conference on Friday along with principal secretary (environment, climate change and forest) V Hekali Zhimomi, briefing about the mega plantation drive slated for July 12. Sharing a presentation for the drive to be kick-started by CM Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur, additional principal chief conservator of forest planning and social forestry Deepak Kumar said 57.62 crore saplings are ready in nurseries and reaching plantation locations.
