U'khand logs 97% rain deficit
Mussoorie, June 22 -- Uttarakhand witnessed a dry spell over the past 24 hours, recording only 0.2 mm of rainfall against the normal average of 7 mm, resulting in a 97% rainfall deficit for the period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, according to the Meteorological Centre, Dehradun adding that a yellow alert for eight districts has been issued.
The daily district-wise rainfall summary showed that most districts remained completely dry, raising concerns over a delayed monsoon and its impact on water availability across the state.
Dehradun, Almora, Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar recorded no rainfall during the period, registering a 100% shortfall from their respective normal averages.
Among the districts that received rainfall, Bageshwar recorded 1.4 mm against a normal of 5.8 mm, registering a 76% deficit.
Champawat received 0.3 mm against a normal of 8.9 mm, while Pithoragarh recorded 0.5 mm against 7.5 mm and Uttarkashi received 0.4 mm against its normal average of 8 mm, resulting in deficits ranging from 93% to 97%.htc...
