U'khand govt revokes IFS officers transfer order, HC closes case
Dehradun, July 14 -- The Uttarakhand government has withdrawn two transfer orders issued against senior Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Pankaj Kumar, informing the Uttarakhand High Court on Monday that both orders had been rescinded. The development prompted the court to dismiss Kumar's writ petition as infructuous.
The matter was heard by a division bench of Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Subhash Upadhyay. During the hearing, the state's standing counsel informed the court that the government had withdrawn the original transfer order dated August 25, 2025, as well as a subsequent transfer order issued on April 13, 2026.
Both withdrawal orders were issued by the forest department on July 7, 2026, and copies were placed before the bench. Taking note of the govt's decision, the bench observed that the grievances raised in the petition had been addressed.
"In view of the said orders, the writ petition has become infructuous. Accordingly, the writ petition is dismissed as having become infructuous," the court said.
"Today the state counsel informed the division bench that the state has cancelled the transfer order. Recording the same, the court has closed the transfer petition. The next date in the contempt petition is September 11, 2026. IFS officer Pankaj Kumar continues as Director of the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve," Advocate Abhijay Negi, counsel for Kumar said.
