LUCKNOW, May 31 -- The Lucknow meteorological centre issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning strikes and gusty winds across over 50 districts in the state for the next 24 hours. Winds are forecast to reach speeds ranging from 40-50 km/h, with gusts of up to 60 km/h. The alert covers approximately two-thirds of the state, including major areas like Lucknow, Unnao, Sitapur, Barabanki, Raebareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Banda, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Gonda, Hamirpur, Jhansi and surrounding areas. Rain and thundershowers are very likely at a few places across the state on Sunday. The warning specifies that thunderstorms/lightning accompanied by gusty winds (40-50 km/h, gusting to 60 km/h) are very likely at isolated locations. For Lucknow, the forecast is a partly cloudy sky becoming generally cloudy with a few spells of rain/thundershowers and gusty winds. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 33degC and 24degC, respectively. Due to the recent rain and overcast conditions across many parts of UP, temperatures remained below 40degC at all observatories on Saturday. The maximum temperature in Lucknow on Saturday was 34degC, which is 6.1 degrees below normal. The minimum was 24.5degC. At Etawah, the maximum temperature recorded was 32.6 degC which was 9.9 degrees below normal. Banda recorded a day temperature of 36.2degC (7.4 degrees below normal), a stark change from the scorching 48.2degC it recorded on May 19, when it was the hottest city in the country. Other recorded maximum temperatures on Saturday included Hamirpur and Agra at 35.2degC, and Varanasi (airport) at 33.8degC....
