GORAKHPUR, Aug. 26 -- Two college students were killed and another sustained injuries after a car allegedly hit their scooter near Madhopur Cut under Tamkuhi Raj police station in Kushinagar district early Tuesday, police said. The accident took place around 3am when the three students of Vidyawati Devi Mahila Mahavidyalaya were returning to their hostel on a scooter. According to police, the car hit them, seriously injuring all three. Crime inspector of Tamkuhi Raj police station Ajay Vikram Singh said two students died of their injuries. The third was initially taken to a community health centre and later referred to Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur for further treatment. The deceased were identified as Nisha Giri, 23, and Anamika Singh, 22. The injured student was identified as Alisha Khattoon, 20. Police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the accident. The vehicle involved has also been taken for examination. Officials said the driver and two other occupants of the car have been arrested.
